Product information management
It is vital for suppliers to properly present their product range to customers and prospects. Product information management is therefore an extremely important part of the business process. Centrally managing all available product information, both texts and images, enables you to control the information and avoids duplication of maintenance. Information can be accessed quickly and used immediately for all your marketing materials and for internal communication purposes.
ERP system
A company's Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system often already contains product information. These are systems such as SAP, MS Dynamics, Exact etc. The ERP system links up all business processes, including stock systems, business records and logistics. While the product information stored meets the requirements, it is rarely suitable for immediate publication in a catalogue or on a website. Often not enough levels are available, not all technical and commercial information can be stored and descriptions cannot be used in marketing or sales material. Prices, stock information, EAN, sales units and other 'administrative' information can however be reused straight from the ERP system.
Catalogger Product Information database
In addition to the ERP system for storing and managing product information, many companies use the Catalogger Product Information Database. It is set up in line with the structure of the product range. Product descriptions, product features, images, marketing texts, logos, supplementary documents, comments and so forth are stored in the production information database. All product information can be entered, changed, copied, structured, sorted and linked in the Catalogger database. Catalogger offers extensive product management functions for this purpose.
Medium-independent
Catalogger offers medium-neutral storage of information. This means that layout features may not be added to the information. This is because the information will sometimes be used for publication in a paper catalogue and sometimes for publication on the website.
Multiple languages
When information is provided in multiple languages, the language-independent data (such as article number or dimensions) is entered once only but is however available in each language.
Selections
Different selections can be made from the product information in the database for publication in a web or paper catalogue. For example: all products of a specific brand, all products for a specific industry or the export product range for Germany.
Combined ERP system and Catalogger Product Information database
Since the definitive publication often uses information from both systems, the existing ERP system is usually linked to Catalogger. ERP price information is imported into the Catalogger database so that the price information is also available there. The Catalogger database feeds product information to the website while price information and/or stock information originates directly from the ERP system.
